Review: Giacomo “Jackie Dee” DiNorscio (Vin Diesel) is a career New Jersey gangster who remains steadily loyal to his cohorts in crime, the Lucchesi
family. Again and again he refuses to turn state’s witness against them, even to save himself from spending the
rest of his life behind bars. Based on the true story of the longest mafia trial in U.S. history (22 months),
this film is both entertaining and informative at the same time. Vin Diesel does an excellent job in the role
of a mobster who is willing to sacrifice all for the good of his buddies, and who does it with flair. The
wiseguy attitude and glib courtroom humor and demeanor of DiNorscio, has the audience rooting for the “bad
guys.” Is that a good thing? Perhaps, not. But it works for this particular film.
Peter Dinklage (“The Station Agent” 2003) is outstanding as Ben Klandis, one of the defense attorneys for the
mobsters.
